Come on down to Harvest Hill Church tonight as we study Genesis 44: "Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup and give your heart to Jesus Christ." Dan Peek

Genesis 44: "Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup and give your heart to Jesus Christ." Dan Peek

After reading the chapter;

Let’s compare Deuteronomy 18.10 and Acts 16:16-19, with verses 5 & 15 of chapter 44.

What do you think divination means here in chapter 44??

In your opinion, why is divination mentioned here in Genesis 44?
Compared to God’s truth, divination is false,
deceitful, and worthless.

What goals do you think Joseph had in doing what he did with the silver cup?

Talk about each person’s response to the silver cup being in Benjamin’s pouch?

Compare the way Israel treated Benjamin with the way he treated Joseph.

What is different about the way the brothers treated Benjamin than the way they treated Joseph 22 years earlier?

Perhaps we have answered this question: From the beginning of this chapter to the end, what more do we discover about the relationships in this family? (Verse 16)

Chuck Smith commentary:  “And so Judah, beautiful intercession. An offering to take the place of Benjamin. Oh, what a change of attitude and a change of heart. Notice how he speaks of the love of Jacob for Benjamin. Our father's life is bound up in this kid. And if we don't bring him again, our father will just die. It'll bring the death to my father and it shows a love still for the ancient Jacob that Judah had and it shows really no animosity at all. Willing to take the place of Benjamin in becoming a bondman instead of Benjamin. The final test is being passed. Joseph now knows that the brothers truly have repented. He now knows that the feelings of bitterness and animosity are gone. He knows that that's all in the past. And they are passing the test royally; Judah offering to take the place, to take the guilt and to suffer in the place. Now it is interesting that from Judah Christ was to come. The Lion of the tribe of Judah who offered to take our guilt and our place and took our punishment for us. Here Judah offering to do that for his brother”.

What do you have to do tonight to put into action the teachings of this lesson?
