Chapter 48 - Blessed be the Name of the Lord!

After reading the chapter, let’s break it down as follows;

In verses 3-4,

A. Note God’s calling on Jacob’s life.

B. What two things were included in God’s blessing to Jacob?

C. Jacob’s other encounters with God: Genesis 32.22-32 & Genesis 35.6-13

Why did Jacob claim Joseph’s sons for his own?

What was included in Jacob’s blessings to Manasseh & Ephraim?

What do you discover about God in verse 16?

Was Jacob right to favor the youngest son & why did he favor him?

3 generations of the younger being blessed: 17.18-19, isaac instead of ishmael; 25.23, jacob instead of esau; now ephraim instead of manasseh.

According to Psalm 1, who are blessed & what are the consequences of following these blessings?

SPECS on Bible study
S - sin to confess and stop

P - promise to have or keep

E - example to follow

C - command to do or obey

S - stumbling block or problem to avoid or go around

Commentary from Wesley’s notes: “God, in bestowing his blessings upon his people, gives more to some than to others, more gifts, graces and comforts, and more of the good things of this life. And he often gives most to those that are least likely: he chooses the weak things of the world, raises the poor out of the dust. Grace observes not the order of nature, nor does God prefer those whom we think fittest to be preferred but, as it pleases Him.”
