I'm late with this, but we start in 90 minutes! Come on down to Clinton and join the fun at Harvest Hill Church!

Genesis 47 - Live and let live! First, let’s enjoy reading the chapter!
What do we discover about Joseph’s relationship with Pharaoh and Pharaoh’s relationship with Joseph’s family?

Verses 13-31, What do we learn about Joseph’s leadership during the famine?

How do you think the Egyptians felt at losing their land while Joseph’s family received land?
Next week, we will see Jacob blessing Joseph’s sons, but today we’ll look at verse 10 where Jacob blesses the Pharaoh.

Looking at the blessings in Genesis 5.2 & 12.2-3.
What does a blessing mean?
What do you mean when you say, “I am blessed”?

What do you have to do tonight to apply to your life, the conclusions we have made from this study?
Conclusions about relationships;

Matthew Henry Commentary - “Death is not far from any of us. Jacob's care (at this time) … was about his burial … (that) he would be buried in Canaan, because it was the land of promise. It was a type of heaven, that better country. Nothing will better help to make a death-bed easy, than the certain prospect of rest in the heavenly Canaan after death. (Now to us today) Christ Jesus gives us the true bread, that we may eat and live for ever. To Him let us come and yield ourselves, and when we draw near to death, he who supported us through life, will meet us and assure us of everlasting salvation.”

Come on down to Harvest Hill Church tonight as we study Genesis 44: "Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup and give your heart to Jesus Christ." Dan Peek

Genesis 44: "Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup and give your heart to Jesus Christ." Dan Peek

After reading the chapter;

Let’s compare Deuteronomy 18.10 and Acts 16:16-19, with verses 5 & 15 of chapter 44.

What do you think divination means here in chapter 44??

In your opinion, why is divination mentioned here in Genesis 44?
Compared to God’s truth, divination is false,
deceitful, and worthless.

What goals do you think Joseph had in doing what he did with the silver cup?

Talk about each person’s response to the silver cup being in Benjamin’s pouch?

Compare the way Israel treated Benjamin with the way he treated Joseph.

What is different about the way the brothers treated Benjamin than the way they treated Joseph 22 years earlier?

Perhaps we have answered this question: From the beginning of this chapter to the end, what more do we discover about the relationships in this family? (Verse 16)

Chuck Smith commentary:  “And so Judah, beautiful intercession. An offering to take the place of Benjamin. Oh, what a change of attitude and a change of heart. Notice how he speaks of the love of Jacob for Benjamin. Our father's life is bound up in this kid. And if we don't bring him again, our father will just die. It'll bring the death to my father and it shows a love still for the ancient Jacob that Judah had and it shows really no animosity at all. Willing to take the place of Benjamin in becoming a bondman instead of Benjamin. The final test is being passed. Joseph now knows that the brothers truly have repented. He now knows that the feelings of bitterness and animosity are gone. He knows that that's all in the past. And they are passing the test royally; Judah offering to take the place, to take the guilt and to suffer in the place. Now it is interesting that from Judah Christ was to come. The Lion of the tribe of Judah who offered to take our guilt and our place and took our punishment for us. Here Judah offering to do that for his brother”.

What do you have to do tonight to put into action the teachings of this lesson?
